Rulers!

September 30, 2007

I was reading a work written on Dhirubhai Ambani by Gita Piramaal. In that, I came across an excellent line - “We cannot chage our rulers, but we can at least help them learn how to rule us better” - D.A. What a thoughtful statement!

Just a thought in H.O.T!

We should make the rulers(politicians in general) realise that we cannot be fooled by mere FREE SCHEMES. We, the so called educated class can opt for any of these while voting, instead of not voting(& blaming the govt)

    1. Most of us dunno that there is a provision to bring PRESIDENT’S RULE in the state by filling just a form , if we r not interested in any of the canditates. A specific % has to be crossed.

    2. Instead of supportin the usual parties (who r doin nothin except announcin free schemes and embezzling funds), we can support new parties who have a definite goal and vision.(For eg, a party run by IIT alumini etc).

  2. Srivaths Says:

@Chandru - Valid point & actionable one also. Thanks

  3. eyecandy girl Says:

Hey srivaths, your point is definitely valid, leaders do not know how to rule.

  4. srivaths Says:

@ Eyecandy girl - I don’t know how to educate them. Taking the example of abolition of corruption: Sting operations conducted by TV channels exposed corrupt people and thought it would bring down corruption level and educate them; but what has happened?

Operation after operation have been conducted to expose the lacuna in the system but what has been the result? Has everything stopped? Nope.

So the question is - What will make them listen? Or what will make them change from this poor state?

    I don’t know that!

  5. Chini Says:

Tell u what. Even if people desire a change in leadership or even if the wise n intelligent come to the fore; there is hardly any impact. Look at what happened to Lok Paritran. I had a lot of hopes pinned on them.

  6. srivaths Says:

@Chini - Lok Paritran was (is) a good sign that young, educated and motivated people want to clean up the system by entering politics. My opinion, this will gather more momentum. Never to lose hope!

  7. Ashwin Says:

A leader is one who does the right things. Leaders normally have charisma.

People with charisma are not always good. Add a moronic intellect to it… and what do you get?

A charismatic moron! Not a leader!

We need people who are wound good tight in their top floor, based on strong intellectual values. Not some stupid actors or script writers, who think the real world is as easy as the reel world.

Nothing short of a mind revolution among the masses will make them listen.
Why? They are old… and deaf. Mired in the old ways and hence deaf to anything else.

  8. Srivaths Says:

@ Ashwin - Very very valid point! And how to bring about the ‘mind revolution’? Any thoughts on that?
I had a conversation with some of my best buddies in ‘May’ and their point was education is the place to start with.
    Your thoughts on this!

  9. Ashwin Says:

Tell you what… if you can consolidate the discussion with buddies as a post, it would be better.

Education might be a good place to start… but everyone just stops short. What next? Anyone?

  10. chandru Says:

Creating awareness is important.people shd know to discriminate. The sad fact is that, during elections, people forget abt the activities(?) of the govt and vote for a party which has given free schemes in their so-called ‘election manefesto’…

  11. Sriram Says:

People who can think what has been done during the reign and then come to a decision are the ones who should compulsorily register their votes. People who base their votes just on some manifestos and last minute cash give-aways can comfortably refrain from voting. ‘coz their decision will in no way be sensible.

  12. Gaurav Singhvi Says:

Easier said than done… DA was in a position that he could educate them to rule the way he would be benefitted… we are not in that position…

  13. Nova Says:

    Hahahaha… good one :)

  14. Vatsa Says:

@Gaurav - Point taken. Mode of communication can be different. Isn’t it?!
